Gray

“The color of truth is gray.”
- Andre Gide

I pass this bog on my way to work. Today the reflections appeared so other-worldly that I turned around to try and capture even a little of their monochromatic glory.

Now That I Have Access, Do I Have Anything to Say???

I should be pleased with possibility of reconnection and the opportunity to regroup and recommit to my simple resolutions, but in truth the muscle fibers in my shoulders and the blue veins in my hands ache with discontent. I struggle to find inspiration and will lean on poet Mary Oliver like a crutch:

Praying

It doesn't have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don't try
to make them elaborate, this isn't
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.

Will also look to Maira Kalman and her gorgeous blog "And the Pursuit of Happiness" and cling to her ever-so-relevant interpretation of Lincoln at this time of palpable internal and external distress.

Fighting Firewalls and Embodying Peace

The computer at which I spend upwards of nine hours a day now forbids me from accessing this site. So now not only do I have to seek out inspiration, I also have to seek out access...

Today the West Suburban Faith-Based Peace Coalition hosted an afternoon with Walter Wink and June Keener Wink. Participants are embodying peace through movement.

"Facing" My Fears

Siblings, cousins, and friends have been conspiring to get me to join Facebook. Their persistence has finally paid off. Can I just say that Social Networking scares the crap out of me!

Snow Blindness

Have been sick, and gray, and thoroughly uninspired by my surroundings to the point that my camera has not emerged in a week. I will try to shake this lethargy tomorrow.

January 20th-A New Day

Today Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. May it usher in an era of peace and prosperity, compassion and calm that is long remembered in our nation.

Following is an illustration of the President's Inauguration speech that was prepared by Brandy Agerbeck. (As a Graphic facilitator Brandy Agerbeck creates conceptual maps of conversations. Brandy's images help people navigate the complex world around them and bring clarity to their work.)

January 18th-It Just Won't Work

These should have been glowing with gorgeous golden light, illuminating a sacred event. No matter what I did, I just couldn't make it work. Since that was the reason I was there, I can't help feeling like a failure.

Leaving our frozen landscape for a quick junket to Florida for the Christening. A last glitter of winter clings to the window.

Today our extreme cold was irrelevant as I ventured out to Navy Pier to watch my little brother graduate from the Chicago Fire Academy (YEAH T!). A view of the harbor shows the steam rising off the lake.

January 14th-Snow Takes a Backseat to Cold

The extremes of winter continue to take their toll... In the amount of time it took to complete a transaction at the bank drive-through the following temperature drop occurred.

Scrubbed Clean

Snow
by Anne Sexton

Snow,
blessed snow,
comes out of the sky
like bleached flies.
The ground is no longer naked.
The ground has on its clothes.
The trees poke out of sheets
and each branch wears the sock of God.

There is hope.
There is hope everywhere.
I bite it.
Someone once said:
Don't bite till you know
if it's bread or stone.
What I bite is all bread,
rising, yeasty as a cloud.

There is hope.
There is hope everywhere.
Today God gives milk
and I have the pail.

January 11th-More Snow

Poor subject and weak composition, but the first time I've ever managed to capture even the faintest bit of sparkle that makes new snow so beautiful.
