February 26th - Mindful
Mindful
by Mary Oliver
Every day
I see or hear
something
that more or less
kills me
with delight,
that leaves me
like a needle
in the haystack
of light.
It was what I was born for--
to look, to listen,
to lose myself
inside this soft world--
to instruct myself
over and over
in joy,
and acclamation.
Nor am I talking
about the exceptional,
the fearful, the dreadful,
the very extravagant--
but of the ordinary,
the common, the very drab,
the daily presentations.
Oh, good scholar,
I say to myself,
how can you help
but grow wise
with such teachings
as these--
the untrimmable light
of the world,
the ocean's shine,
the prayers that are made
out of grass?

Fallen Once Again - Leaving 2009
As was noted to the amazing G, the last plus months of 2009 found me in a viewing slump – too dark, too rushed, etc. to take the time to notice things, but I resolved to capture at least some of the magic that was hidden under all the commercial Christmas crap and look for what was really important that might be lying in the peripheries.
Interestingly, it was not so much magic as mildly grotesque variations on holiday themes that emerged in the brief final sojourns with my lens. (I began 2010 in Canada - which thankfully proved to be soil more rich with inspiration!)
So here is the final bursts of Photographic Year I
Below is a random sampling of the demise of 2009…
